SALLYE BORDEN STITT

Died July 7, 2012

A native of Sanford, Sallye received elementary and secondary education in Goldsboro city schools. She matriculated to Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, where she received a bachelor's degree with certification to teach French, English and Spanish. She engaged in further study at the University of North Carolina.

Her yearning to teach influenced her to do further study and be certified as a lay preacher in the Presbyterian and Episcopal churches.

Sallye was an author of a published book titled "The High Road."

Memories of Sallye will be cherished by a sister, Mattie Marie Stitt; a brother, Neal A. Stitt; the many students she taught in Virginia, Mount Olive and Goldsboro public schools; and friends.

The body may be viewed at Hamilton Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 11, at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park North on Old Grantham Road.

Florals and memorial donations to St. Stephen's floral fund, 200 N. James St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, are welcome.
