TRAVIS D. EVERETTE

Oct. 7, 1942-July 6, 2012

LaGRANGE -- Travis Daniel Everette of LaGrange, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 9, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Wheat Swamp Christian Church, 3732 Wheat Swamp Road, LaGrange, with Pastor Hank Jarman officiating. A graveside burial service will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston.

Travis was 69 years old and a lifelong resident of Kinston and LaGrange. He was born Oct. 7, 1942, to Julian Franklin Everette Jr. and Mary Potter Everette who predeceased him. He attended Grainger High School, where he played on the baseball team. He began his career as vice president of The Love Company before he started his own business. Travis owned Everette's Industrial Repair in Kinston for over 25 years. His business was a source of pride and joy for him. He was an innovator and a problem solver. All who worked with him respected his intellect, ingenuity and dedication.

Travis was a friend to all who knew him and made new friends out of all who met him. His gentlemanly manners and his sense of humor were his trademarks. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and loved being on the water. He loved being an eastern North Carolinian and delighted many with his fish stew and barbecue. He was a kind and gentle man, a wonderful father and a loving husband. Those who know him best, knew that he was happiest at home in his garden.

Travis is survived by his wife, Debbie Vann Everette, who he married on Oct. 11, 2008. While their marriage was far too short, it filled him with much happiness. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Elizabeth Everette of Kinston; three children from his marriage to Barbara Grant of LaGrange: April Everette and Mark Steven Shelton of New York, N.Y., Daniel Todd Everette of Kinston and Kelly Everette and Joshua Matthew Ness of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two stepchildren from his marriage to Debbie Vann, Sherry Vann and Travis Vann, both of Goldsboro. He leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Everette Spencer Shelton, Isabella Cooper Ness, Emiliano Tapia Everette and Hewitt Potter Shelton.
