R. Douglas "Red" Scott, 51, passed away early Saturday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Funeral services will be held today at 6 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Strouse and Pastor Terry Hobbs officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial with Masonic Rites will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was the husband of Susan Moore Scott and the son of Rodney Grayson Scott Sr. and Verna Merritt Scott. He was employed by the city of Goldsboro with the Goldsboro Police Department. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, a lifetime member and past master of Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112, Wayne County Shrine Club, Sudan Mini Rigs, and was an Eagle Scout.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Kyle Douglas Scott and friend, Katie Dunham, of Goldsboro; one brother, Rod Scott Jr. and wife, Terry, of Dudley; two sisters, Peggy S. Smith and husband, Randy, of Charlotte and Amy S. Elks and husband, Mike, of Winterville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospitals, c/o the Wayne County Shrine Club, P.O. Box 446, Dudley, NC 28333 or to Southeastern Cancer Care, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, NC 27534.
