CLAYTON -- Mrs. Bertha Mae Barnes Howell, 52, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Bert," 25 Norwich Drive, Clayton, departed her earthly life peacefully Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at her residence.

"Bert" was born in Wayne County July 16, 1959, to the late Mrs. Mae Lizzie Jefferson Barnes and Odell Edith Barnes.

Bertha attended and was educated in the public schools in Wayne County.

She had a profound love for God, her family and baseball.

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, July 8, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 N. Carolina St., Goldsboro. Pastor Timothy Dortch will officiate. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery South, 2925 S. U.S. 117, Dudley.

Also, a public viewing will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012, from 3 to 6 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m.

Mrs. Howell leaves to cherish her sweet and loving memories her three devoted children, Wanda Barnes Faison and husband, Reice, of the home, Jerry Barnes of Winston-Salem and Derek Barnes and wife, Tasha, of Goldsboro; five loving sisters, Patricia Barnes of Goldsboro, Lillie Barnes Conner and husband, J.C., of Leesburg, Va., Helena McDuffie of Cromwell, Conn., Linda Wolfe and husband, Jason, of Florence, S.C., and Gloria Cribbs and husband, Ronald, of Chadbum; three loving brothers, Odis Barnes and wife, Marie, and Roy Barnes all of Goldsboro and Jerry McDuffie of Whiteville; three aunts; an uncle; seven granddaughters; four grandsons; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She left an indelible impression on everyone she met. Truly, she will be missed.

The family will assemble at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Derek Barnes an hour prior to the funeral at 12:45 p.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
