HELEN ALORDA (HINNANT) SMITH

WILMINGTON -- Heaven gained an angel with the passing of Helen Alorda (Hinnant) Smith May 23, 2012.
A loving mother, sister, wife, aunt, nana and friend to all who were blessed to know her.
Born Nov. 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Ethel Bunch Alorda.
Helen was a member of the 1956 graduating class at New Hanover High School.
Her career began as owner of The Stork Shoppe, and she retired from South Atlantic Services in 2000.
A member of Pine Valley Baptist Church for many years, she loved her church community with all her heart and enjoyed her Sunday school group. Her walk with the Lord was a beautiful one and radiated through her smile, touch and words.
Helen loved to travel and enjoyed the beach and entertaining. She had a deep love for Wilmington.
She is survived by her husband, Ken "Buddy" Smith; children, Renae (Jeff) Fountain, Denise Albea (Scott Britt) and John (Jamie) Hinnant III; sister, Juliette Thompson of Goldsboro; nephews, Jerry (and family) and Jeff Cannon; grandchildren, Meagan Hathaway and Connor and Ava Hinnant; the father of her children, John B. Hinnant Jr.; stepchildren, Clay Smith, Kenny Smith and Wendy Robinette and grandkids; and closest friends, Shirley Sutton of Wilmington and Bonnie Rhodes of California.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 27, at 2 p.m., with visitation immediately following at Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington.
