CLAYTON -- Retired Lt. Col. Edward Kendall Whaley, 74, passed away May 23, 2012.
A memorial service with military honors will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Mount Herman Christian Church, with pastor Keith Zelesky officiating.
He was a highly decorated veteran of the United States Air Force, having earned the Distinguished Flying Cross medal.
He is survived by his wife, Mary N. Whaley; daughter, Beth Barber of Clayton; sons, Philip Whaley of Clayton, Scott Whaley and wife, Sherry, of Kentucky and Charles Whaley and wife, Debbie of Goldsboro; eight grandchildren; brother, Nolan R. Whaley and wife, Roberta, of Richland; sisters, Carman Hogan and husband, Donald, of Richland and Wilena Cowan and husband, Charles, of Orlando, Fla.; and his beloved companion, Hunter.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the church prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to either Mount Herman Christian Church Senior Saints, 5916 Raynor Road, Garner, N.C., 27529, or the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C., 27565.
