MOUNT OLIVE -- George A. Kelly, 86, Red Hill community near Mount Olive, went to his heavenly home Sunday morning, May 13, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services are to be held Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with visitation following. Burial will be Wednesday, May 16, at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Geoffrey Carter and the Rev. Paul Rose will officiate, with Gerald Garner offering personal remarks.
Mr. Kelly had been a lifelong resident of the Red Hill section, and was the youngest child born to the late John and Maude Goodson Kelly.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star for bravery and courage during his service tenure.
He was a farmer, and was retired from the Mount Olive Post Office as a rural letter carrier.
He had been a lifelong member of Alum Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where he had served as a longtime deacon and church leader.
He is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Hilda Jernigan Kelly; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda K. and Charles Turner; two grandchildren, Amanda T. Jenkins and husband, Timothy, and Ryan Turner; great-grandchildren, Peyton Jeorgette Jenkins, Raegen Turner and her mother, Brittney Sprague, Gage Jenkins and Cole Jenkins all of Mount Olive; a special friend and farm assistant, David Bizzell of Mount Olive; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special niece, Beverly Raines of Goldsboro.
Along with his parents, Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha K. Herring; five brothers, William Kelly, Emmett Kelly, Robert Kelly, Russell Kelly and J. W. "Swinge" Kelly; as well as two infant sisters.

Mr. George was a fine Christian man and a good neighbor.
His last spoken words, "I love you all" summed up the essence of his life -- loving and caring for everyone around him.
