DENNIS JAMES GIBBS

Dennis James Gibbs was born Dec. 29, 1955, to Inez Lewis-Gibbs and the late Emanuel Gibbs in Greene County. He departed this earthly life Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Kitty Atkins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Dennis graduated from Greene Central High School in Snow Hill in 1973.
He was employed by Greene County Tape Co. in Snow Hill for one year.
In 1974, he started work at Joy Manufacturing, which is now Cooper Interconnect, where he was employed for 36 years until his health failed.
Dennis attended Invitation AME Zion Church at an early age. He joined Pathway to Life United Holy Church in Fremont in 2007 under the leadership of elder Helen Reid, where he served as a faithful trustee, usher and finance committee member up until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel Gibbs, and brother, Harry Gibbs.
Mourning his loss, yet rejoicing in his homegoing, he leaves to cherish fond memories to his lovely wife of 27 years, Annie Jones-Gibbs; only daughter, Latasha Denise Gibbs, whom he loved so dearly of the home; his mother, Ms. Inez Gibbs of Snow Hill; his sister, Sarah LaVerne Gibbs also of Snow Hill; his brothers, Kenly Gibbs of Kinston and Johnny and Larry Gibbs, both of Snow Hill; 12 sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 4, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, 401 N. William St., Goldsboro.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Greater Morning Star Church, 705 S. Sycamore St., Fremont.
Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Gibbs' delicate temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont for interment rites.
Mr. Gibbs' earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Gibbs and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
