JOSHUA HYMAN ROGERSON

SPEED -- Joshua Hyman Rogerson, 91, passed away quietly at his home Friday morning, Sept. 17, 2010.

Hyman was born March 16, 1919, to Joshua Rogerson and Addie Hyman Rogerson in Tarboro.

A graveside service as held Monday 11 a.m. at the family cemetery on his farm at 1801 Mill Pond Road in Hobgood, with pastor Jimmy Millard officiating.

Hyman served proudly in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945, serving in Africa, Sicily and Italy.

He was a member of Speed Volunteer Fire Department and Speed Rurtian Club, and was one of the original founders of Hobgood Academy.

His greatest love was his family and farming.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Hazel James Rogerson; sisters, Frances Duffer and Lucy Margaret Cumbea; his loving family, including daughter, Kathryn Rogerson Huerta and husband, Adalberto "Bert" Huerta, of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Maggie Kathryn Daniels of Belleville, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Makayla and Jackson Daniels all of Belleville, Ill.; niece, Pat McBride and husband, Gene, of Lakeland, Fla.; great-nieces, Karen McBride Latimer of Lakeland and Jessica McBride Upton of Hattiesburg, Miss.; nephew, Mike Duffer and wife, Franci, of Deltona, Fla.; great-nieces, Tracy Duffer and Sara Duffer of Deltona, Fla.; niece, Margaret Cumbea of Tillman, Texas; his two devoted friends, Bobby Norris and Donald Warren; and two loving and devoted nurses, Jeanette Griffin and Adell Gary.

Bobby Norris, Jordan Norris, Donald Warren, Ronnie Warren, Ray Manning and Ricky Thompson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family received friends at Carlisle Funeral Home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
