James Cecil Barnes, 84, of Fremont, died Friday at Kitty Askins of Goldsboro surrounded by his family.
His funeral will be held Monday 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Minshew-Coley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Upper Black Creek Church Cemetery in Lucama.
He graduated from Lucama High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Later, he was a local farmer and livestock producer. Mr. Barnes was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Annie Lee Holland Barnes; three daughters, Linda Williamson and husband, Harold, of Fremont, Barbara Creech and husband, Jimmy, of Rosewood, Joette Dunn of Fremont; daughter-in-law, Shirley Barnes; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister, Daphne Howard of Wilson; son, Robert Barnes of Lucama; son-in-law, Danny Dunn of Fremont.
Family will receive friends at Minshew-Coley Funeral Home this evening from 7 until 9, and other times at the home.
