MOUNT OLIVE -- Deloit Cotton, 76, of 760 Corbett Hill Road, died Saturday at his home. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Nathan and Ola Joyner Cotton. A member of Eureka Christian Church, he served as a Wayne County commissioner for eight years. He was a farmer and the owner and operator of Cotton's Restaurant in Goldsboro for six years and in Durham for three years. He was a member of the Mill Creek Masonic Lodge 125 in Newton Grove and a member of Woodmen of the World.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Eureka Christian Church, with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Nannie D. Cotton; three daughters, Deane Best and husband, Richard, Melinda Carlton and husband, Jerry, and Julie Carter and husband, Robert, all of Grantham; a sister, Melba Jackson of Four Oaks; and 11 grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, George Everett Cotton, Nathan Cotton Jr., Raymond Cotton, and Harvey Cotton; sisters, Lettie Mae and Mattie Gray Cotton, Ethelene Strickland and Thelma Britt; and his granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Carlton.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and following the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home.
