Brandon Lark Jr. presented $3,350 to Brogden Primary and Brogden Middle School for school supplies during Monday night's Wayne County Board of Education meeting.

In June, Lark, who is a fourth-grader at Brogden Primary, said that he wanted to figure out a way to support his teachers and community. That is when he had the idea to hold a school supply drive to collect funds and donations for teachers to purchase supplies.

With the help of his parents, RaSheena Lark and Brandon Lark Sr., and grandmother, Carolyn Remington, Brandon held several garage sales where he sold his grandfather's collection of Beanie Babies. Monetary donations were also collected through a GoFundMe page.

In July, Lark was recognized for his achievements and work during the Wayne County Board of Education "spotlights." The board chooses students and staff who have received state or national recognition to spotlight their achievements.

Lark was asked to return to the board after he had completed his school supply donation project to present the money to the two schools.

Of the $3,350 raised, Lark donated $500 to Brogden Middle and $2,850 to Brogden Primary.

Board member Len Henderson and the other members of the board praised Lark for his drive to support the teachers in his community. Henderson also said that he hoped the board will take the issue to heart to ensure that every child in Wayne County receives a quality education.

"It goes a long way when you see little kids in the fourth grade coming up and saying, 'I want to do something for our teachers,'" Henderson said. "In some ways, it's a bad reflection on us saying we're not providing everything that we need to provide for our teachers.

"So, I hope we will take this situation to heart and begin to do all that we can to support our teachers, our administration, our leadership and do what we can to ensure that every child in Wayne County -- whether you're over on the other side of the river or on this side of the river -- that every child deserves a good quality of education."
