Tobacco Barn goes up in flames

New Hope, Saluston and Shine Fire Departments work to remove smoldering tobacco from a barn as they respond to a fire at 418 Rodell Barrow Rd on the farm of Steve Wells. The fire, that started at the back of the barn near the heater, caused about $14,000 worth of damage to the barn and the crop.

Firefighters responded to a tobacco barn fire just before 3 p.m., Tuesday at Steve Wells Farms at 418 Rodell Barrow Road. Three different fire departments responded to the fire, which took place in one of four tobacco barns at the address. The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, and it took firefighters 30 minutes to get the flames under control. No injuries were reported. None of the other barns caught fire, Captain Jason Gray with the New Hope Fire Department said. Gray said the cause of the the fire is unknown, and the incident remains under investigation.
