Comatha Johnson received the Cornerstone Award and President's Award from the Continental Societies, which serves underprivileged children.
Comatha Boyette Johnson has been awarded the Continental Societies' Cornerstone Award and President's Award.
Johnson received the awards at the organization's recent national conclave in Hampton, Virginia.
The Cornerstone Award is presented for unconditional commitment to Continental Societies Inc.
The President's Award is for unwavering dedication and enduring service to the organization at the local, regional and national levels.
Continental Societies, Inc., a nonprofit, tax-exempt international public service organization, was founded by a group of women in 1956.
Its mission is to foster, promote and develop the welfare of underprivileged children and youths.
Johnson has more than 40 years of uninterrupted service with the Goldsboro chapter and has served at the local, regional and national levels.
She is the only Goldsboro chapter member to serve as chapter president for eight consecutive years and is the longest-serving mid-Atlantic regional director.
Thousands of children and youths have benefited from numerous programs and hundreds were awarded scholarships during her tenure with the local chapter.
She also created and implemented several programs including the Continental Extra Effort Award and the Commitment And Concern Award to improve and enhance service and sisterly relations.
She introduced the Mentor and Educate concept to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the members' service to children.
She also implemented the Sisterhood Sacrifice to ensure funding for programs at the regional level.
Johnson was inducted into the Goldsboro Chapter Hall of Fame in 2005 and named the recipient of the Gertrude A. Cox Outstanding Service Award in 2007 that is named for the chapter's organizer and first president.
She received the Sisterhood Legacy Award in 2010, the Mid-Atlantic Region's highest award given a member.
In 2011, the organization's Mid-Atlantic Region established the Comatha B. Johnson Outstanding Member/Leadership Award in her honor.
She was the recipient of the Continental Extra Effort Award in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
She received the Shining Star Award in 2014 and 2015.
She received the Mid-Atlantic Region Appreciation and Dedicated Service Award in 2015 and the Leadership and Commitment Award Distinctive Years of Service Award in 2016 and the Unsung Sisterhood Award in 2018.
She was inducted into the Continental Societies Inc. National Hall of Fame in 2007.
She received the National Visionary Warrior Leadership Award in 2014 and the National President's Dedicated Service Award in 2016
Johnson was the recipient of the Lillian Parks Thomas Award at the 2016 Conclave in Las Vegas -- the organization's highest award bestowed upon a member -- and is the recipient of the Dorthea Burns President's Award at the 2017 Conclave in Hampton, Virginia.
Johnson currently serves on the board for the Wayne Action Group for Economic Solvency and the Goldsboro Human Relations Council.
