Master Gardeners award two scholarships

The Wayne County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association recently presented two $500 college scholarships to two Wayne County students.
Taylor Glover, of Pikeville, is a recent graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and has been in the dual enrollment program at Wayne Community College. She plans to attend Wayne Community College working toward a degree in applied animal science technology. She then plans to transfer to a university to further her education.
Noah Stewart, of LaGrange, is currently a sophomore at the University of Mount Olive pursuing a degree in agriculture education. After graduation, he plans to enroll in an online graduate program offered through N.C. A&T State University and follow a career as a high school agriculture teacher.
The Wayne County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association Scholarship is to assist a Wayne County high school senior or full-time college student who has a desire to work in the horticulture or agriculture industry. The scholarship is based on academic achievement, leadership characteristics, career plans in horticulture or agriculture, future plans for enhancing the quality of life for themselves as well as their communities.
The Wayne County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program is through N.C. Cooperative Extension where volunteers are trained to assist their local extension office with enhancing public education in consumer horticulture. The association raises funds during the year to provide scholarships that promote the horticulture and agriculture industry by assisting people entering these fields of study.
