Belfast Fire Department, Wayne County EMS and North Carolina Highway Patrol respond to the scene of a wreck in front of Little Buck Swamp Academy Monday morning. The driver, Kevin Woodrow Sauls of Dudley, was traveling west on Buck Swamp Road when a medical emergency caused him to loose control of his car and hit brickwork at the exit and the sign in front of the daycare.
A Dudley man in the midst of a medical emergency crashed into a day care marquee on Buck Swamp Road Monday.
His condition is unknown at this time.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which happened steps away from the Little Buck Swamp Academy just after 10 a.m.
Trooper Justin Arnette said that the driver, identified as 29-year-old Kevin Woodrow Sauls of 107 Butler Road, suffered a medical emergency. He crashed his 2007 Pontiac G5 into the brick marquee. Arnette said that Sauls will be charged with driving left of center.
The day care owner, John Smith, said that 99 children were inside at the time of the crash. No one inside the day care was injured and business continued as usually.
"This is the first time that we have had someone hit our marquee," Smith said.
Sauls was taken by EMS to Wayne UNC Health Care.
