Sheriff announces promotion, honors

Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce announced recently the promotion of a deputy and presented seven deputies with certificates of various achievement.
Deputy Hope Shivar was promoted from patrol to the Detective Division.
Pierce presented her with her detective badge on Jan. 12.
Pierce also presented to Sgt. Brandy Jones and Cpl. Chris Braswell with their certificates from the North Carolina Justice Academy School Resource Officer Certificate Program.
To qualify for this certificate, Jones and Braswell independently completed more than 400 hours of required training.
This training revolved around making the schools safer for the children and the staff of our school system.
Jones is the 190th person and Braswell is the 191st law enforcement officer in North Carolina to receive this certification.
Lt. Patrick Hux and Sgt. Brandy Jones were presented with their Advanced Law Enforcement certificates.
The award is also issued by the N.C. Department of Justice in conjunction with the N.C. Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission, and is based on a combination of a deputy's time in service, education and training.
Sheriff Pierce also presented to Lt. Tom Flores, Capt. Brian Dawson and Lt. Mike Kabler with the Advanced Service Award.
Flores has 21 years of service, Dawson has 25 years of service, and Kabler has 23 years of service with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The award is issued by the North Carolina Department of Justice in conjunction with the North Carolina Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission.
