Seymour Johnson Air Force Base has declared Torero's Restaurant off limits to its military personnel, citing an alleged incident at the establishment involving a military family member.
The base announced the decision in a post on its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon. According to the post, the decision to block the downtown business came after several incidents.
"In recent years, there have been numerous reported incidents of crime, and in some cases violence, associated with Torero's Restaurant in downtown Goldsboro. An individual closely associated with the restaurant has been connected to alleged incidents that recently put an Air Force family member in harm's way," the post read. "In order to preserve the health, safety and well-being of Team Seymour, this establishment was placed off-limits [in accordance with] Air Force policy and directives."
It was unclear at the time what the specific incident in question was, but the restaurant has come under scrutiny several times in recent years. The establishment's manager, Miguel Angel Gomez Camacho, was charged with sexual battery on two separate occasions in 2017, pleading guilty to simple assault after the first charge was dismissed. Torero's also came close to losing its alcohol permits in 2015, after two liquor bottles were found to have tax stamps which had been moved from other, older bottles.
Base officials periodically monitor the list of off-limits businesses to determine if they have alleviated the base's concerns, according to the post.
