The North Carolina Highway Patrol investigates the scene of a wreck on N.C. Highway 403 near the Duplin County line Monday morning. Passenger Wilma Noren Felker, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, her husband, Jack Lee Felker, 62 is listed in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center.

MOUNT OLIVE ---- A one-vehicle wreck on N.C. Highway 403 near the Duplin County line Monday morning around 10 a.m. left one passenger dead and the driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado in critical condition.

Wilma Noren Felker, 63, of 922 N.C. 403 W., in Mount Olive, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was ejected when the truck being driven by her husband, Jack Lee Felker, 62, hit a tree. Neither person was wearing a seat belt.

According to Trooper Ryan Riley of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Felker was traveling south on N.C. 403 when he ran off of the road to the right, overcorrected, ran off of the road to the left and struck a tree, finally coming to a rest on the north bound shoulder of the highway.

Firefighters from Pricetown Volunteer Fire Department extricated Felker from the truck and he was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he remains in critical condition.

Trooper Riley said that no charges have been filed as authorities await a change in Felker's condition.

Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the wreck.
