Jennifer Casner reacts as she realizes that her key has unlocked the United Way Fair Share treasure chest containing a check for $5,000.
United Way of Wayne County celebrated with those who participated in the 2017 Fair Share Challenge fundraising campaign on Dec. 14 at the Laughing Owl in downtown Goldsboro.
A fair share participant donates a minimum of one hour of pay per month for an entire year, said Patty Graham, United Way of Wayne County community engagement director.
"Each year we have weekly drawings during the campaign challenge and select at random from all fair share investors. We have 22 Fair Share finalists who came to win the $5,000 at the Laughing Owl," Graham said.
One by one the finalists tried their key to find out if they would be the lucky one to unlock the treasure chest containing a check for $5,000.
The 15th key held the magic.
Jennifer Casner, from Wayne UNC Health Care, held the winning the key. She has been an investor for 15 years. Many years ago, she was in need of one of United Way of Wayne County program. She gives to make sure others have the opportunity to change their lives as she did, said a press release from United Way of Wayne County.
Currently, United Way of Wayne County has reached 75 percent of its goal of improving 22,345 lives.
There are still about 6,000 people counting on United Way of Wayne County to make its annual goal.
The fair share challenge is a workplace investment through a local employer. The Community Campaign runs through the end of February, so United Way invites everyone to make a personal investment in the improving the lives of friends and neighbors in Wayne County.
