Third person charged in Robert Baymon homicide investigation

A third person has been charged in the killing of Robert Baymon ---- this time on charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and accessory after the fact to murder.

Baymon, 60, was shot inside his Eason Street home on Oct. 11, after he apparently let two individuals into his house at around 3 a.m.

Police have since confirmed that what unfolded inside the residence was an unsuccessful robbery attempt that ended with Baymon shot twice.

Baymon was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care and then transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where, on Oct. 18, he succumbed to his wounds.

Two men arrested since Baymon's death are charged with murder.

Kendall Shane Price, 23, of Seven Springs, was taken into custody On Oct. 25 without incident, according to information shared by police. Two days later, Anthony Rhodes Barnes, 22, was also arrested and charged with an open count of murder. Both Price and Barnes are being held without bond.

Police have said throughout that the investigation has remained open, and so on Tuesday, Dearron Strickland, 24, of 306 Herman St., was also arrested.

Strickland, already in custody on a probation violation, saw his secured bond of $50,000 doubled with the added charges stemming from the Baymon case. He is due in Wayne County District Court Wednesday for a first appearance.

The Baymon homicide investigation remains ongoing.
