Goldsboro Police Chief Mike West said the house where a man was shot to death early Saturday morning was a liquor house.

The person who lives at 235 Wayne Ave., 46-year-old Lazorie Staccato Woods, was arrested and charged Saturday night -- 18 hours after the shooting --  with alcohol related offenses.

Woods is charged with possession or sale of alcoholic beverages with no permit, possession or sale of non tax-paid alcohol, ABC law violation and felony possession of a firearm by a felon.

The house was discovered to be a liquor house based on what evidence was on the scene when officers responded to the shooting early Saturday morning, West said.

"My understanding is from the investigation up to this point, there was going to be some alcohol violations, ALE violations, but other than that, I don't have a whole lot more information than that," West said.

West said police do not know why 36-year-old William Darryl Braswell, of 204 Augusta Drive, Dudley, was at the house early Saturday morning before he was shot.

"(We) don't have specifics on why he was there. Don't know if it's because there was an event going on or if it was just the mere case that it was a liquor house," West said.

Braswell was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care and died after being transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Though Woods was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, West said police do not currently believe he had something to do with Braswell's death.

"There's nothing I've seen so far that says there is a connection," West said.
