Habitat for Humanity's annual National Women Build Week begins Saturday

Habitat for Humanity's annual National Women Build Week starts May 6 and ends May 11 -- the day Goldsboro's Habitat event for women begins.
Women Build will last until Saturday, May 13, for women in Wayne County to volunteer to finish floors, walls and possibly the roof of the Alriyashi family's home at 107 Patsy Lane.
The family includes a father, a mother and three children.
There will be two shifts per day from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12 to 3:30 p.m.
Registration costs $100, and it includes a t-shirt, lunch, a thank you bag and door prizes.
Matthew Whittle, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne, said the house will be the 75th new construction for the 16-year-old local Habitat.
He said the organization is excited to take part in the national event.
"Women Build is always one of our most popular events every year," he said. "We know when we get these groups on the job site that we are going to get a lot done."
According to a Habitat press release, more than 17,000 women are expected to volunteer during the week of the national event.
Lowe's Heroes volunteers will also help with the building process and teach other volunteers construction skills, the release said.
"We're grateful to all the women in Wayne County who will volunteer ... to help build and repair decent and affordable housing," Lowe's director of community relations James Frinson said.
