Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies called to a Dudley home Thursday night said they found a man shot in the leg by a family member.
According to the report, deputies saw "several" neighbors outside waiving their arms for deputies to go to their house.
When deputies approached the home, Jose Almando Roman Diaz, 16, walked outside with his hands in the air. A woman holding a shotgun walked behind him, the report said.
The incident took place inside the home at 222 Everittsville Road at 9:28 p.m.
Maj. Tom Effler could not confirm how Diaz and the victim are related, but he said Diaz shot him after the two men argued.
After the shooting, Diaz walked to a neighbor's house in the same mobile home neighborhood. It was there that he gave himself up to law enforcement.
Deputies took the shotgun from the woman, and Diaz was arrested without incident.
According to the report, the victim was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital by a family member. Effler said he is now in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Diaz is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
He remains in the Wayne County jail under a $50,000 bond.
