The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident where a shot was fired into a truck on Wayne Memorial Drive Sunday night.
According to a report filed with the sheriff's office, the shooting happened after Jamie Paul Hare, 33, got into a fight with another man at the Walmart in Rosewood.
After the fight, Hare went to Wayne Memorial Hospital to confront the other man, but was denied access by hospital police, the report said.
Hare then went to the Walmart on Tommy's Road and was sitting there in his red Nissan truck for around a half hour when a gray Chrysler sped into the parking lot, according to the report.
A man with dreadlocks hopped out of the Chrysler and brandished a gun, the report said.
Hare told police he pulled the man toward him and almost got the gun away from him.
According to the report, the man with dreadlocks then stepped back and said, "So you like messing with little girls?"
Maj. Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said he did not know why the man with dreadlocks said that to Hare.
Hare then drove away, and the Chrysler followed him, the report said.
When Hare turned onto Wayne Memorial Drive from Tommy's Road, he told police he heard a loud noise like his truck was backfiring.
Goldsboro police officers pulled Hare over at Wayne Community College and discovered there was a bullet hole in the tailgate of his truck.
Authorities retrieved the bullet lodged in the vehicle as evidence.
Effler said he had no additional information on the case.
