The Old Dobbs Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Wayne County Public Library. The start time will be 10 a.m. rather than the usual 10:30 due to the program. The organization will be joining the Wayne County Public Library in presenting a streaming program from North Carolina Archives on a virtual family history fair.

It willl feature gnealogical research at the North Carolina Government and Heritage Library and the State Archives of North Carolina. Staff members will discuss the types of materials, collections, and services available at their respective repositories.

Also, there will be a discussion on the Freedman's Bureau records, which are more valuable to all Southern research than many people might think. A common misunderstanding is this record group only encompasses records of freed slaves. In addition, often information about impoverished southern families are included.

And there will be a discussion about online resources available at the library and the Archives, the North Carolina Digital Collections, and other institutions.
