A Goldsboro man wanted for a January killing was brought back to Wayne County from Maryland on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Billy Renaldo Hamm, 44, of 912 N. John St., is the last of five suspects to be arrested who were allegedly involved in the Jan. 9 killing of 47-year-old Carlos Cesar Vasquez Luna at 159 Sleepy Creek Road in Dudley.
Hamm is being held with-out bond on the murder charge and was given a $300,000 secured bond on the other charges.
Wayne County Sheriff's Office Det. Sgt. Larry Mitchell said Hamm was arrested in Silver Spring, Md., on April 12 after getting into a fight at a coffee shop.
"We arranged a deal with the police up there where he could serve his time on their charges and then be brought back down here on his outstanding murder warrant," Mitchell said.
Mitchell, a detective on the case, said Hamm was in a coffee shop and was asked to leave, but refused.
Officers came to the coffee shop and spoke with Hamm, and Hamm allegedly gave the officers falsified information in the form of a fake birth date.
Mitchell said Hamm could not tell the officer which year he was born after providing the false information, which made the officer suspicious.
The officer then used a portable thumbprinting device and positively identified Hamm and saw he had a warrant out for his arrest for his alleged participation in the January murder.
According to Mitchell, Hamm then resisted officers and did not cooperate before being arrested and taken into custody.
Hamm was charged with trespassing, resisting an officer, disturbing the public peace/disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and second degree assault as a result of the coffee shop incident.
Mitchell said Hamm served nearly six months time for those charges levied against him. According to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Hamm was arrested Tuesday.
"We're glad to have all the suspects involved with the murder in custody," Mitchell said.
The other four suspects arrested and charged for their alleged involvement in the murder of Luna are:
* Jerry Aundrey Parks, 41, 912 John St., first-degree murder; attempted first-degree murder; first-degree burglary; two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, no bond.
* Darius Lamar Chestnut, 35, 907 N. Carolina St., first-degree burglary and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, $300,000 secured bond.
* Montrell Demontrin Allen, 41, 104 Jessica Place, first-degree burglary and two counts of attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, $300,000 secured bond.
* Jennele Lea Howard Wall, 35, Room 8, Carolina Motel, 2316 N. William St. first-degree murder; attempted first-degree murder; attempted armed robbery; and first-degree burglary, no bond.
