Officers with the Mount Olive Police Department speak with the North Carolina Highway Patrol following a chase that ended in a vacant lot on South Southerland Street Tuesday afternoon.

MOUNT OLIVE -- A police chase that spanned three blocks Tuesday afternoon ended when police boxed in the car they were chasing and resulted in the driver of the car being arrested.

Ryan Vann, 36, was charged with failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, felony flee to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving and no operators license when the chase came to an end.

Mount Olive Police Chief Tommy Brown said officers are familiar with Vann, and the chase began at the intersection of Pollock Street and Center Street when officers saw Vann driving a black Acura.

Vann reportedly fled a checkpoint at Norbert Wilson Road and Smith's Chapel Road last week, Brown said, and officers put out an order for his arrest on charges similar to the ones levied against him Tuesday.

"Our patrol guys are familiar with the suspect. He ran on them last week during a checkpoint, and they spotted him driving today and turned around on him and he took off," Brown said.

The chase ended behind a burned out house at 109 S. Southerland St. when two officers boxed Vann in and trapped his car.

Upon his arrest, Vann was served warrants on the charges brought against him when he allegedly fled the checkpoint last week.

"One of our patrol cars probably has about $800 to $1,000 in damages, and his car probably has about $2,000 in damages," Brown said.

There were no injuries incurred by Vann or any of the three officers involved as a result of the chase.
