Series of traffic stops results in several gun, drug charges

A series of traffic stops conducted by the Wayne County/Goldsboro REACT Team Thursday and Friday resulted in several arrests related to guns and drugs.

Maurice Thomas Lewis, 30, of 1517 Hart Circle, was stopped by officers on Beech Street Thursday.

K-9 Ory with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office was used to search Lewis' vehicle, and officers reportedly found a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver concealed near the driver's seat.

Lewis was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed weapon. He was given a $2,500 secured bond and put in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Michael Jamarco Brewington, 23, of 103 S. Alabama Ave., was stopped by officers on Alabama Avenue.

K-9 Ory was again used by the officers to search Brewington's vehicle, and officers reportedly found marijuana, MDMA and digital scales.

Brewington was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possession of MDMA and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was given a $3,000 secured bond and put in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Kelly Michelle Bass, 46, of 2303 Old Smithfield Road, was stopped by officers Friday within the city limits of Goldsboro for a moving violation, according to a press release.

Officers searched the vehicle and reportedly found heroin inside the car. Bass was charged with felony possession of heroin and put in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond.
