A man and a woman were arrested last Wednesday after a traffic stop on N.C. 111 South and Spring Bank Road during which officers located 9 ounces of cocaine with a street value of $25,200.
The Goldsboro/Wayne County Drug Task Force saw Tierea Demon Atkins, 20, of 701 S. Andrews Ave., make an "elaborate drug deal" with Darnisha Yvonne Dunn, 22, of 805 Weaver Drive, according to a press release. Maj. Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said Atkins and Ms. Dunn were stopped in separate vehicles as a result of what the deputies witnessed. According to the release, the cocaine was hidden in "a natural void of the rental vehicle" and found with the use of K-9 Ory.
Effler did not know who was driving the rental vehicle.
"They've got so many natural hiding places in these cars people don't even realize it sometimes," Effler said.
Atkins was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession and trafficking in cocaine by transportation. He is being held under a $1 million secured bond.
Ms. Dunn was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession and trafficking in cocaine by transportation. Her bond is set at $100,000 secured.
