Syringe in bra, meth lead to charges

MOUNT OLIVE -- A woman allegedly hid methamphetamine in her mouth, two syringes in her pocket and one syringe in her bra Sunday in Mount Olive.
A report from the Mount Olive Police Department said Kathy Harper Letchworth, 43, of Kinston and her husband, Stuart Brian Letchworth, 42, of Grifton, were buying methamphetamine from an informant in the McDonald's parking lot at 101 N.C. 55 E.
The informant contacted the police about the two defendants and said the they were sitting in a blue Ford Fusion.
An officer arrived in the Handy Mart parking lot and followed the two east on N.C. 55 after they left McDonald's, the report said. The officer pulled the car over just outside Mount Olive, and another officer arrived to use a K-9 officer to search the vehicle. Letchworth was placed in the police car.
The officer found syringes inside the vehicle, and a female officer searched Mrs. Letchworth, according to the report.
She found 3.8 grams of methamphetamine inside Mrs. Letchworth's mouth, two syringes in her left front pocket and one syringe in her bra. An officer searched Letchworth outside the police car and found three clonazepams on him.
Mrs. Letchworth said she was scared when an officer pulled her over, so she hid the methamphetamine and syringes, the report said.
She is charged with possession of methamphetamine, and she was placed in jail on $2,000 secured bond.
Letchworth is charged with possession of methamphetamine and simple possession. He was placed in jail on a $3,000 secured bond.
