A marketing and sales professional with local ties has been hired as the Goldsboro travel and tourism director.
Ashlin Glatthar, the director of sales and marketing for the Hampton Inn and Best Western Plus hotels in Goldsboro, will start in her new post on Oct. 13, said Randy Guthrie, assistant city manager.
"We are excited to welcome Ashlin Glatthar to the joint city of Goldsboro and Wayne County team as the travel and tourism director," said Scott Barnard, Goldsboro parks and recreation director. "Her hotelier perspective, background, creative ideas, enthusiasm and approach sold us on her ability to meet the rapidly evolving need to market our community."
Glatthar has been the director of sales and marketing for the Spence Avenue hotels since 2013. She has also been a member of the Goldsboro Tourism Council since 2014 and Wayne County Tourism Development Authority since 2015.
Glatthar succeeds Betsy Rosemann, Goldsboro's travel and tourism director of 11 years. Rosemann died unexpectedly in May. Glatthar will earn an annual salary of $65,000.
"Her success in hotel sales and marketing has cultivated valuable relationships with local restaurateurs, hoteliers and regional tourism representatives, and she possesses a sound understanding of Goldsboro's travel and tourism marketplace," Guthrie said.
"She is excited to use both her expertise and passion for travel to continue developing Goldsboro into a unique destination tourists flock to and a place residents are proud to call home."
Originally from Hayesville, Glatthar graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in anthropology and Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2011.
Following graduation, she worked as a legal case manager for a law firm in Colorado Springs, Colo., interim executive director of The Kemp at the Forum, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and as assistant editor and graphic designer for Shorey Public Relations in Washington, D.C.
Glatthar, who worked closely with Rosemann, said she is looking forward to the role as tourism director.
"I'm excited that people thought I was capable of filling her shoes," Glatthar said of Rosemann. "I hope not only to fill her shoes but also to blaze new trails for Goldsboro.
"She put Goldsboro on the map with tourism with our Air Force base tours, highlighting our Civil War history, and she also was instrumental with the Beak Week Festival, which is one of Goldsboro's signature annual festivals.
"I am truly honored to have the opportunity that they would entrust me with tourism."
