Man arrested in tool theft

A Mount Olive man has been charged today by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in the theft of power tools, lawn and garden equipment and a power washer.
Jonathan Wayne Merritt, 58, streets of Mount Olive, has been charged with one count each of felony breaking and entering, larcney after breaking and entering and possession of stolen property.
The charges stem from an incident that was reported Aug. 27 to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division of a breaking and entering at 2121 Arrington Bridge Road in Dudley.
The property owner reported extensive theft of power tools, lawn equipment and a power washer stolen from the residence.
Merritt was developed as a suspect when patrol deputies began investigating a stolen firearm case in which he was the suspect.
Merritt was placed under a $28,000 secured bond.
The sheriff's office reports that a majority of the property has been recovered.
