A car flipped and landed upside down on N.C. 111 near Stoney Creek Church Road early this morning, sending the driver and passenger to the hospital and reducing traffic to one lane for more than an hour.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrolman Justin Arnette, Haley Nicole Hyatt, 24, of Kenly, was driving south on N.C. 111 North when her car ran off the road, flipping and striking a highway sign, dirt embankment and tree.
Her car landed upside down roughly 30 feet from a creek and deep ditch off the side of the highway.
The wreck happened around 6:40 a.m. this morning.
A passenger was also in the car at the time, who has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Dail, of Fremont.
Both Hyatt and Dail were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Arnette said.
Hyatt was charged with exceeding a safe speed for the conditions, Arnette said.
Traffic was flowing normally and both lanes of traffic were reopened just before 8 a.m.
