Parents arrested on drug charges

A mother and father were arrested for alleged heroin possession after being found passed out in their car at 2002 Wayne Memorial Drive with their 3-year-old child in the car.
Steven Britt McCullen, 27, of 1116 Stan Ray Road, Fremont, and Christine Danielle McCullen, 26, of 114 Mergini Drive, Pikeville, were found passed out in their vehicle from a suspected heroin overdose after Goldsboro Police Department B Shift officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked in the McDonald's parking lot at 2002 Wayne Memorial Drive.
Officers found several open packages of what is suspected to be heroin and several unopened packages of what is also suspected to be heroin. There were several syringes found in addition to the suspected heroin.
The 3-year-old child was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital to be evaluated, and Wayne County Social Services took custody of the child. The child had no injuries.
Both Steven and Christine McCullen were arrested and charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and child abuse. Steven McCullen was also charged with driving while impaired.
Steven McCullen was given a $12,000 secured bond, while Christine McCullen a given a $10,000 secured bond. Both of them were placed in the Wayne County Jail.
Their first appearance in Wayne County Court is today.
According to a press release on the incident, there has been an increase in cases like this one.
"If you see a car out of place or parked for a period of time, and (it) does not belong in that location please call law enforcement and let them investigate," the release says.
