Brewmasters, a popular startup craft beer restaurant in Wilson, is expanding with plans to open its second location in Goldsboro this year.

The business will locate in the former McDonald's restaurant building at 2402 E. Ash St. next to O'Reilly Auto Parts, said Buster Dawson with Dawson Construction Services in Wilson.

Work has been taking place for at least two months inside the building in an effort to prepare the property for interior renovations. A portion of the parking lot was also recently paved.

Interior renovation plans will be submitted to the city within three weeks, and renovations are expected to last up to 12 weeks, Dawson said. The opening is planned before the end of the year, he said.

Brewmasters plans to offer a 65-seat dining area, a bar and shelves that will stock a wide variety of craft beer, Dawson said. Brewmasters is known for its Boar's Head sandwiches, soups, salads, appetizers and hundreds of bottled beer selections from North Carolina and other countries.

Brewmasters opened its first location in Wilson several years ago and more recently moved to a larger site along one of Wilson's busiest thoroughfares.

The 2,300-square-foot building footprint will remain as originally constructed, with additional concrete areas for freezers and coolers inside the building. The parking lot is planned to provide 46 spaces, a loading area and landscaping.

The site plans for the Ash Street location were reviewed by the Goldsboro Planning Commission Monday and are recommended to the Goldsboro City Council, which meets Sept. 6.
