Bob Kornegay to lead alliance board

Bob Kornegay of Mount Olive, manager of marketing and member services at Tri-County EMC, has been appointed chairman of the Wayne County Development Alliance board of directors.
The development alliance is the economic development arm for Wayne County, whose mission includes key support of existing industry and the recruitment of new industries to the area.
It also was announced that Gary Smithwick, president of Turner Equipment Co., will succeed Kornegay as board vice chairman.
New board members include David Perry of Goldsboro Builders Supply, Goldsboro representative, and Dr. Phil Kerstetter, president of the University of Mount Olive, and Greg Eloshway, Southern Bank senior vice president and area executive, Mount Olive representatives.
Kornegay succeed the previous WCDA chairman, Goldsboro Mayor Chuck Allen of Allen Grading.
Kornegay has served as vice chairman since 2015 and has served the board as the Impact Wayne Designee since 2012. He is a graduate of the University of Mount Olive and continues to represent the area on multiple boards and committees.
As a representative from the Goldsboro area, Smithwick has been active in the community and has been on the board since 2015.
"We are pleased and honored to have Bob and Gary's continued commitment and support of the WCDA board," said alliance President Crystal Gettys. "Their dedication as prominent members of our community continues to impact Wayne County in positive ways.
"We are happy to also welcome new board members, Greg Eloshway, Dr. Phil Kerstetter, and David Perry, who will add experience and innovation to our aggressive initiatives on behalf of Wayne County industries. We are excited to have such quality representatives from the Town of Mount Olive, City of Goldsboro and all of Wayne County."
WCDA board members have an influential role in ensuring long-term economic development, she said.
The development alliance was created in 2006 by pooling resources from Goldsboro, Mount Olive and Wayne County.
The board ensures the policies of the alliance are exercised and adhered to, by overseeing planning and finances.
Board members include Goldsboro area representatives Jim Daniels, Daniels & Daniels Construction, Neal Benton, BB&T; Mount Olive area representatives, Joe Scott, Mount Olive town commissioner; Wayne County representatives Barbara Aycock, Town of Fremont; Bill Pate and Joe Daughtery, Wayne County commissioners.
