The Wayne County Sheriff's Office raided a methamphetamine lab on Sunday, which resulted in a Stantonsburg man being charged with multiple felonies.
Jarvis Christopher Chase, 44, of 888 Old Mill Road, Stantonsburg, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, six counts of possession of a methamphetamine precursor, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Maj. Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said the weapon of mass destruction found at the residence was a sawed-off shotgun.
Chase was placed under an $80,000 secured bond.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team received information Saturday about a possible methamphetamine lab located at 888 Old Mill Road.
Sheriff's deputies then went to the address and did a welfare check. During the welfare check, deputies noticed several items that are used to manufacture methamphetamine.
"I'm not sure what they went out there for originally, but usually a welfare check is when deputies get a call and are asked to go check on somebody because they haven't been heard from in a while," Effler said.
The deputies then secured a search warrant on the residence and executed the warrant on Sunday.
The Wayne County Drug Squad, Wayne County Sheriff's Office Patrol C Shift and D Shift and the State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the methamphetamine lab raid.
