A police chase inside the city limits Tuesday afternoon ended with a man in custody who had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Cornelius Earl Jones, 28, of 1212 N. James St., failed to stop when police attempted to pull him over for reckless driving. Jones then led police officers on a chase through the city, eventually crashing into another car at the intersection of Walnut Street and Herman Street.
Jones then kept driving away from police officers before being apprehended on the 300 block of North Jackson Street.
More than a dozen charges were filed against Jones as a result of the police chase and the outstanding warrants served on him.
Jones was charged with felony fleeing to elude police officers, possession of marijuana, driving while his license was revoked and misdemeanor hit and run causing property damage as a result of Tuesday's chase.
As a result of the outstanding warrants served on Jones, he was also charged with felony fleeing to elude, no operator's license, child abuse, resisting a public officer, one misdemeanor count of probation violation, three felony counts of probation violation, failure to appear and a parole warrant for violation of conditions post-release.
Jones was initially given a $170,000 secured bond as a combined bond on all the charges, but was placed in the Wayne County jail without bond.
