Supplies found during a meth lab raid in a building at 1775 Old Smithfield Road Saturday morning lie on a plastic tarp before they are bagged to be destroyed. During the search the Wayne County Sheriff's Office found supplies in several areas of the building.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office raided a methamphetamine lab at 1775 Old Smithfield Road early Saturday morning.
Andrew Douglas Best, 56, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine.
Sabrina Blizzard Taylor was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.
Both Best and Ms. Taylor were placed in the Wayne County jail under an unspecified secured bond. Further charges are expected to be filed against them.
The methamphetamine lab was hidden in the roof of the stick-built, metal covered building that doubled as a residence for Best and Ms. Taylor.
Sgt. Doug Honeycutt said he was not at liberty to say how the sheriff's office was tipped off about the location of the methamphetamine lab.
Only one small bag of methamphetamine was found during the search of the residence, but sheriff's deputies with the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement team also seized various methamphetamine precursors of butane, Drano, battery acid and blister packs of medicine containing pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. Law enforcement agents also seized a book titled "Secrets of Methamphetamine Manufacture Fourth Edition: Including Recipes for MDA, Ecstacy and Psychedelic Amphetamines by Uncle Fester."
"We got here around 1 a.m. this morning," Honeycutt said.
Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the investigation of the lab and the destruction of the seized evidence. The scene was cleared before noon Saturday morning.
