Wayne County Public Schools has announced two administrative changes to principals in the district, prompted by the November retirement of veteran principal Gene Byrd at Eastern Wayne High School.
Lee Johnson, principal at Wayne Early/Middle College High School since it opened in the fall of 2006, moved into the principal job at Eastern Wayne before the holiday, leaving a vacancy at WEMCH.
This week officials named Freda Allen, Rosewood Middle School principal, as the new administrator at Wayne Early/Middle, with Goldsboro High School Principal Brian Weeks moving to Rosewood Middle.
Both will begin their new duties Tuesday, Jan. 19. A replacement for Weeks has not been named.
Mrs. Allen has more than 19 years of experience in the profession. She started her career in 1996 as a math teacher at Southern Wayne High School. After 15 years as an educator, she moved into school administration, becoming assistant principal at Rosewood Middle. Four years into that role, she became principal at the school in 2015.
She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics education and a master's degree in school administration from East Carolina University.
Weeks has over 15 years experience. Before becoming principal at Goldsboro High since 2013, he had been an assistant principal there as well as Southern Wayne High and Northeast Elementary schools. He also had taught math and science at Brogden Middle School.
He earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from East Carolina University and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Scranton.
