A Goldsboro man is recovering at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with a gunshot wound to the face and another man is wanted for attempted murder following a shooting Tuesday night, according to a Goldsboro Police Department press release.
Travonte Na'Quan Coley, 30, of 611 Isler St., is wanted for attempted murder, firing into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to police, Coley is considered armed and dangerous.
Coley is wanted in connection with shooting multiple times into the vehicle of another man police say was struck in the face.
Jacob Benjamin Smith, 23, and a female passenger were shot at while sitting in their vehicle outside the Lighthouse Food Mart at 902 Herman Place at 7:45 p.m., according to the police report.
The passenger, Kristen Taylor Peardon, 20, told police that Smith pulled into the Lighthouse parking lot and pulled alongside another car to talk to some people that he knew. She then heard two gunshots and told Smith to "Drive."
As Smith pulled away, Peardon heard two more gunshots. Once the two were on Atlantic Avenue she realized Smith had been shot in the face and she called for help.
Investigators responded after patrol officers and Wayne County EMS got to the scene and had Smith taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. During the course of their investigation, Coley was developed as a suspect and warrants have been issued for his arrest.
Coley, according to a separate report, was arrested earlier in the day outside the Beestown grocery on charges of driving while license revoked, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was placed under a $14,500 secured bond, but was able to bond out. Coley has 20 pending court dates for charges ranging from traffic violations to drug charges.
