Miss Goldsboro pageants scheduled

Six contestants will vie for the title Miss Goldsboro 2016 next weekend, with six others competing to become Miss Outstanding Teen.
The local scholarship pageant will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, said Shirley Proctor of Eureka, executive director.
This is Ms. Proctor's first year in the role. She has served on the Miss Goldsboro committee for four years as appearance coordinator and last year was co-executive director.
Since 1939, contestants have represented Goldsboro and Wayne County as an ambassador and role model.
Winners go on to compete at the Miss North Carolina Scholarship pageant June 20-25 in Raleigh.
Miss Goldsboro will receive a $1,000 cash scholarship as well as prizes including a monthly wardrobe allowance from Emily's Boutique, a year of tanning services from DreamMakers, monthly nail services from Panache and a month of free fitness training with personal trainer Jeff Finney of Goldsboro.
The reigning Miss Goldsboro, Victoria Baskett, placed in the Top 10 at the Miss North Carolina pageant last year. Miss Outstanding Teen 2015, Catherine White, was also in the Top 10 and named third runner-up in the state event.
The following are contestants for Miss Goldsboro.
* Taylor Bowden turns 21 on Nov. 10. A graduate of Clinton High School and now a junior at Barton College, for her talent, she will do a clog dance to "Treasure." Her platform is "Active and Able: Empowering Students with Special Needs."
* Rachel Cole, 18, from Raleigh, is a graduate of Cape Fear High School. She is currently attending Meredith College. She will sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Her platform is "Love Yourself: Self-Esteem is a Life Fulfilled."
* Casey Croom, 22, of Pikeville, graduated from Princeton High School and UNC-Wilmington. She will perform a tap dance to "Lewis Boogie." Her platform is "Four Points to a Healthy Heart."
* Chloe Lockyer, 21, from Statesville, is a graduate of North Iredell High School and a current senior at N.C. State University. She plays the saxophone and will perform "Sing, Sing, Sing." Her platform is "Bring Light to the Darkness: Depression Awareness."
* Anna Mason Moore, 17, from New Bern, is a senior at Arendell Parrott Academy. For talent, she will do a jazz dance to "Say a Little Prayer." Her platform is "S.M.A.R.T. Girls."
* Kali Whitaker, 22, from Raleigh, graduated from Davie County High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. Her talent will be a jazz dance to "Knock on Wood." Her platform is "Big Brothers, Big Sisters of America."
The following are Outstanding Teen contestants.
* Isabella Gaines, 16, from Wilmington, attends John T. Hoggard High School. She will perform a contemporary clog dance to "Move." Her platform is "A Child's Hope."
* Hailey Hudson, who turns 15 on Nov. 9, is from Stedman and attends Terry Sanford High School. Her talent is a vocal performance of "Almost There." Her platform is "Speak Up for Social Media Safety."
* Rebecca Rodriguez, 15, of Goldsboro, attends Charles B. Aycock High School. She will perform a musical theater dance to "Daddy." Her platform is "Girl Up."
* Kirsten Sampson, 15, from Pikeville, is also a student at Charles B. Aycock High School. She will perform the instrumental version of "Popular." Her platform is "Homelessness: The Crisis That Lives Close to Home."
* Emmalee Danielle Smith, 16, from Hope Mills, is a junior at Grays Creek High School. Her will perform a ballet. Her platform is "Dance for the Dime: Supporting the March of Dimes."
* Hannah Smith, 14, of Faison, attends Hobbton High School. She will sing "Defying Gravity." Her platform is "ADHD is Not the Same as BAD."
Tickets are available at the Paramount website and at the door. Admission is $15 for general seating. All former Miss Goldsboros receive a complimentary ticket.
