The finance officer for Wayne County Public Schools is taking on a new role in the district, officials announced Thursday afternoon.
Beverly Boltinhouse, hired to manage the school system's finance office in June 2014, was named associate director of career and technical education.
Dr. Michael Dunsmore, who became superintendent in July, said the move is in line with his efforts to build a top-notch career and technical education program in Wayne County.
As finance officer, Mrs. Boltinhouse has managed the district's $180 million annual budget, overseen payroll and benefits for about 2,900 employees and handled financial details for multiple school construction and renovation projects, he said.
"With her background in finance and business education, her support of this department will help take our career and technical education program to new heights," Dunsmore said.
Mrs. Boltinhouse amassed a strong background in the classroom before taking on the responsibilities at central office last year. She spent two decades with the district as a business and education teacher.
Prior to entering the education field in 1994, she had 14 years of business and finance experience with positions ranging from operations manager at a local credit union to payroll supervisor with the school district.
A National Board Certified teacher since 2004, she holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in data processing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi, and a master's degree in business education from East Carolina University.
She is also a Microsoft Certified Trainer and has 14 Microsoft certifications.
In the new capacity, she will work with and report to Erlene Brogden, CTE director.
Mrs. Boltinhouse said she appreciated (former superintendent) Dr. (Steven) Taylor's confidence in hiring her to the finance office last year.
"I am thankful for the opportunity to work in this capacity and feel that my contributions have helped strengthen the fiscal integrity of our organization," she said. "With 20 years spent working as a CTE business teacher, I welcome the challenges of this new role and working with Mrs. Brogden to transform our district CTE programs to better prepare Wayne County students for today's globally competitive workforce."
The superintendent said that during the transition, the district is partnering with SEC, School Efficiency Consultants, which will provide interim support of business operations until a new finance officer is hired.
"With the support of my leadership team, I am working to reshape and reorganize our district's administrative offices by shifting positions and roles in order to operate more efficiently and to maximize the professional strengths of our staff," he said. "I appreciate Mrs. Boltinhouse's flexibility in taking on this new position."
