Enns to deliver Harrison memorial lecture

MOUNT OLIVE -- Dr. Peter Enns will be the guest speaker for the 27th annual Vivian B. Harrison Memorial Lecture at the University of Mount Olive.
The first lecture will be held Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. in Rodgers Chapel. On Tuesday, Oct. 13, there will be a 9 a.m. lecture and an 11 a.m. worship service in Rodgers Chapel.
Enns will lecture on the topic from his most recent book, "The Bible Tells Me So: Why Defending Scripture Has Made Us Unable to Read It."
Enns currently works at Eastern University in Pennsylvania and holds a B.A. in behavioral science from Messiah College in Grantham, PA, a M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University.
He is a Biblical scholar who teaches and writes on Old Testament, New Testament, Second Temple Judaism, and the intersection of biblical studies and contemporary Christian faith.
He has taught extensively at the seminary and doctoral levels at Westminster Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, Harvard Divinity School, Fuller Theological Seminary, Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and Biblical Theological Seminary and on the undergraduate level at Temple University and Messiah College.
He speaks in academic and ecclesiastical venues on topics pertaining the Bible and Christian faith. He has written and edited over a dozen books and many articles and essays.

The purpose of the event is to provide a medium for continuing education for the ministers and laypersons of North Carolina.

Mrs. Harrison was a graduate of Mount Olive College and Barton College, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She taught public school in North Carolina for 17 years before retiring in 1986 due to illness.
