Thomas Donica, a senior at Wayne Christian School, has been named a semifinalist in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship program.
He is one of 16,000 semifinalists from across the nation chosen for the competitive scholarship.
The academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered in the spring.
About 1.5 million juniors from more than 22,000 high schools entered the 61st annual program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test. The pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of the nation's high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
The son of Paul and Jennifer Donica, Thomas plans to pursue his college education in chemical engineering.
