A Goldsboro man faces three felony charges after a failed attempt at a robbery at the Serena Inn early Sunday morning.
Police say the suspect took the hotel owner's gun from him and tried to rob him before a security guard on the premises pulled his own weapon and detained the suspect.
David Dekarlo Sampson, 36, of 608 Simmons St., is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny from a person and larceny of a firearm. He is currently being held in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
According to the police report, Sampson entered the Serena Inn at 708 Corporate Drive at 3:15 a.m. Sunday and grabbed a handgun off the waist of the hotel operator, Pratham Vashisth, 41.
Sampson then forced everyone to get down on the floor and demanded money, the report said.
A security guard on duty at the hotel then pulled his own firearm and forced Sampson to lie on the ground. He held him there until police arrived.
Police officers arrived on scene and took Sampson into custody without incident. No injuries were reported and the stolen firearm -- the Glock 9 mm taken from Vashisth -- was recovered.
