Four middle school students and seven high school students were chosen to showcase their voices and musical talents in the 2015 N.C. Middle School and High School All State choral events.
Chosen from Wayne County Public Schools were Terrence Dawson from Eastern Wayne Middle; Josie Klages from Rosewood Middle; Maggie Castillo and Kasey Vann from Grantham; Jordan Cartrette, Jeffrey Bryan, Blakke Fisher, Samantha McFee and Victoria Hill, all from Rosewood High; and Hannah Keeler and Macaylah Tyndall from Southern Wayne High.
The N.C. Music Educators Association hosted the all-state events. The Middle School All State Chorus, which performed in late April in Greensboro, featured a sixth-grade chorus, a women's chorus and a mixed chorus. The High School All State Choir, which performed in Raleigh in May, featured a ninth- and 10th-grade mixed choir, an 11th- and 12th-grade mixed choir, a women's choir and a men's choir.
In the weeks leading up to each choral event, students spent hours rehearsing at home and with their respective music teachers at school. They then traveled to each venue to work with guest clinicians in bringing all the vocal parts together for the performance.
The students were recognized earlier last week at the Wayne County Board of Education meeting.
Board member Pat Burden presented each with a certificate and congratulated them on the achievement.
"By singing in the N.C. Middle All State Chorus and the High School All State Choir, you have proven that some of the best middle and high school vocalists in North Carolina are from right here in Wayne County," she said.
