Traffic stop ends in drug, weapons arrest

A Goldsboro man who ran after a traffic stop conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office warrant squad and the Goldsboro Police Department Patrol Shift D Tuesday faces drug and weapons charges.
Cornelius Weeks, 28, 804 N. Pineview St., is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony fleeing to elude arrest. He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
According to a press release, members of the Wayne County Drug Squad were conducting an investigation into the illegal sale distribution of drugs in the local area. After observing a drug transaction, officers attempted to stop Weeks' car.
After a brief chase, Weeks abandoned his car in the 1100 block of James Street and fled on foot. Officers caught up to Weeks and arrested him. Police found a Glock handgun, three grams of cocaine and one gram of marijuana, resulting in the charges against him.
Weeks is due to appear in Wayne County District Court May 27.
