8:00 a.m. - Reports of shots fired at Wayne Community College in the Wayne Learning Center roll across police scanners.
8:11 a.m. - Goldsboro Police Department arrives on the scene. Shortly thereafter, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office also arrives on the scene.
8:17 a.m. - Students receive texts saying, "This is not a drill. The Wayne Community College campus is on lockdown."
8:20 a.m. Goldsboro Police Chief Jeff Stewart and Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce arrive on scene and establish a command post.
8:30 a.m. - All access points to the college along Wayne Memorial Drive and New Hope Road have been closed off and secured by Highway Patrolmen with automatic rifles. Helicopters begin overhead surveillance.
8:50 a.m. - All personnel, but not students, evacuated from buildings.
9:00 a.m. - SWAT teams from Johnston County arrive on scene and begin clearing buildings.
9:05 a.m. - Gas is deployed in the buildings, as SWAT teams mistakenly believe that the suspect has barricaded himself in the bathroom.
9:30 a.m. - Reports come out that one shot was fired, and one person was possibly injured during the shooting.
10 a.m. - Information is confirmed that one person was fatally shot in the Wayne Learning Center at approximately 8 a.m.
10:45 a.m. - SWAT teams escort groups of students out of buildings after being on lockdown for nearly three hours.
11 a.m. - Helicopters land to regroup and plan their next move during the manhunt.
11:05 a.m. - Helicopters take off, heading south, with one staying over campus to comb the perimeter.
11:10 a.m. - Red Cross arrives on scene to begin giving aid to any victims, witnesses to the shooting.
11:30 a.m. - Confirmed description of the suspect is released, described as being a bald white male, standing 5-feet-11, with a tattoo around his left eye and a goatee on his chin, last wearing a blue jacket and light colored pants.
11:47 a.m. - The North Carolina Highway Patrol and local law enforcement hold a press conference to update the media and local citizens on the shooting.
11:50 a.m. - It is revealed that the victim of the shooting was an 18-year employee of Wayne Community College, Ron Lane, who worked as a printing technician in the print shop.
11:52 a.m. - Law enforcement reveals that Kenneth Stancil III is a "person of interest" in the case, and was a former student at Wayne Community College.
11:55 a.m. - Law enforcement says that Stancil's last known address was listed as being in Wayne County, and they believe the shooting to be an isolated incident, meaning Stancil was only after Lane, and not other students.
12 p.m. - The press conference ends, and it is announced that another will be held at 2 p.m. in the same location to provide further updates.
12:45 p.m. - Wayne Community College Public Information Officer Tara Humphries says there was "no way to know" how many people would have been present on campus at the time of the shooting. But, she says, Monday morning at 8 a.m. is, statistically, when the least number of people would have been on campus, further supporting the belief this was an isolated incident.
2:07 p.m. - The second press conference begins with Goldsboro Police Chief Jeff Stewart saying there is "really no new information to be released" at the time.
2:09 p.m. - Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce says the suspect is confirmed as being Kenneth Morgan Stancil III, age 20.
2:10 p.m. - Reporters begin questioning official sources.
2:12 p.m. - It is confirmed that the suspect walked into the Wayne Learning Center with a shotgun, climbed three flights of steps, shot Lane, and exited the premises, all without being stopped. It is also released that Stancil worked for Lane as a work-study student at Wayne Community College's print shop, but no motive for the shooting is released.
2:13 p.m. - Wayne Community College President Kay Albertson says Stancil's actions were possible because it is an open campus, where passes are not needed to enter buildings, and that this is "pretty standard" for community colleges across North Carolina.
2:20 p.m. - Press conference ends with knowledge that the hunt is on for Kenneth Morgan Stancil III, with the perimeter being set as the entire state of North Carolina, which will be expanded as necessary.
3:30 p.m. - Local law enforcement begin searching Stancil's last known address, 781 Old Mt. Olive Highway, Dudley, and discover he is not there -- but his vehicle is.
4:30 p.m. - Law enforcement releases official photos of Kenneth Morgan Stancil III.
5:30 p.m. - Law enforcement wraps up a nearly two-hour search and seizure at Stancil's last known address, exiting the building with plenty of evidence but refusing to comment on any specifics due to the investigation being ongoing.
5:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. - No new information is released as the manhunt continues.
6:05 a.m., April 14 - News breaks that Stancil was arrested at 1:20 a.m. while sleeping on a beach in Daytona Beach, Fla., more than seven and a half hours and 539 miles away.
6:10 a.m. - Police reveal that Stancil had a knife on him when he was arrested, and will be extradited to Wayne County for trial.
6:20 a.m. - The manhunt for Stancil is officially declared as finished.
